August Full Moon

The Sturgeon Moon is a Full Moon in Pisces.

Beautiful themes from the Sturgeon Moon

Water and surrender

The Sturgeon Moon is named after a fish that belongs to the water, and you will actually experience the full moon from the water. They will be physically supported by the pool while listening to the sound of the bowls.

Deep listening

Sturgeon navigate and find food through sensory organs around their mouths, sensing what is around them rather than relying primarily on sight. This creates a lovely symbolic connection with listening, feeling and becoming more aware of what is happening beneath the surface.

Going deeper

The sturgeon spends much of its time close to the bottom of rivers and lakes. For a floating sound bath, this can become an invitation to move away from constant stimulation and turn your attention inward.

Patience and longevity

Some sturgeon live for more than a century. Their slow maturation and extraordinary lifespan can symbolically represent patience, allowing things to develop in their own time and reconnecting with a longer perspective.

Seasonal transition

August also represents a point of transition in the Northern Hemisphere. Summer is beginning to shift, the days are gradually becoming shorter, and many traditional August moon names relate to crops reaching maturity and the beginning of harvest.

What is a Sound Bath

A Sound Bath is a deeply-immersive, full-body listening experience.

A crystal singing bowl sound bath primarily involves listening to the sounds and vibrations produced by 432 Hz bowls made of high-purity quartz crystal and other instruments.

It's called a "bath" because you are "immersed" in the sounds, letting the vibrations wash over you and making you feel relaxed.

Benefits: You can encounter a range of experiences, including profound relaxation, a heightened sense of peace, an uplift in mood, improved clarity of thought, physical and emotional release, a deeper self-connection, or simply enjoy the sensations.

What to Expect: We'll start off nice and easy, just focusing on your breath and body to help you unwind. Then, we’ll get you onto the floating mattress in the pool. Take all the time you need to get settled and comfortable. There are no difficult poses or flexibility needed here, this is all about pure relaxation and ease.

What Makes a Floating Sound Bath unique? The pool acts like a massive amplifier.

  • Deep Brain Relaxation: Because your body floats effortlessly, your brain stops worrying about balance and posture, allowing your mind to naturally shift into a deeply relaxed state.

  • A Full-Body Sound Massage: Water is dense and carries sound 4 to 5 times faster than air. This allows the low, soothing frequencies to travel efficiently beneath you, physically massaging your nervous system to melt away deep-seated stress.

  • Double the Sound Healing: Unlike a normal sound bath where you only hear through the air, here the sound reaches you through two pathways at once, through your ears and as physical vibrations traveling directly through the water and mattress into your body.

  • No Painful Pressure Points: Lying on a hard floor or yoga mat can make your back and joints ache. Floating on an air mattress completely removes those hard pressure points, so your body feels entirely weightless and supported.

Location

Built in 1937, the pool was designed by the famous Rotterdam architectural firm De Roos & Overeijnder. Because of its stunning, well-preserved Interbellum architecture, it was officially designated as a Rijksmonument (National Monument) in 2002.

It is the only swimming facility in the center of Rotterdam that features an outdoor pool. They are open daily, and you can easily access the pool by purchasing a day pass or a membership + they offer a summer special membership.

Van maanenbad

one of the most beloved, historic, and architecturally unique swimming pools in Rotterdam.
